    Jim Beam Devil's Cut

This is the result of taking 90 proof Jim Beam Bourbon and extracting spirit absorbed into the wood of the barrels itself and blending them together. The result is a punchy oak-fest of a Bourbon, surely the drink of the devil himself?

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Immensely woody, fresh cut oak and a whole heap of vanilla and wood spice.

    Palate

The American oak vanilla remains powerful with a rich woodiness joining it.

    Finish

Yep still oaky, the finish is reasonably long with a pinch of spice scattered on top of that persistent vanilla flavour.

    Overall

Well this is definitely a woody drink, and it is an interesting experiment in what can be achieved through wood extraction.

    Good and well priced

This seems to be a love it or hate it Bourbon. I personally love it. Reminds me a bit of JD. I would buy it again. If you prefer something sweeter try Bulliet.

    just for cooking

Not worth to be called Whisky. You may use in a cake when you are not having any Vanilla near by.

Great fun, excellent flavour with rye-style richness

Was very pleasantly surprised by Jim Beam Devil's Cut, even tho not particularly a bourbon or Beam fan ... It has a very delicious & full flavour, & puts just the right amount of fire into the palate. Tho it's a bit different, the rich flavour character in Beam Devil's Cut reminded me of rye whiskies. Has converted me into keeping a bourbon around, with this as main representative.

    Yes, it's oaky. And...?

Perhaps it helped that I had low expectations to begin with (I've never been a JB fan, and their Mila Kunis ads give the impression of a gimmicky product...not that I mind looking at Mila), and the only reason I had any to try was because the local Total Wine had some in those little 50ml sampler bottles near the check-out, so I grabbed a couple on impulse. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed sipping some Devil's Cut neat. The heavier-than-most oak didn't bother me a bit, nor did it mask the other flavors to any significant degree. It's not close to being in the same as my beloved Blanton's, to be sure...but at $19.99 (vs. the ~$50 I'm currently paying for Blanton's....when I can even find it) it's a nice, easily affordable every-evening accompaniment to desperately trying to find something worth sitting through on TV before bedtime.
