Sourced from an undisclosed Islay distillery comes Scarabus, a single malt from Hunter Laing launched for Fèis Ìle 2019. Scarabus means ‘rocky place’ in Old Norse, named after a mystical area of Islay. The whole expression is quite mysterious, from the secretive distillery to the golden symbols adorning the bottle. A very handsome bottling housing delicious Islay whisky.
Classic notes of maritime peat smoke, sea spray and sea salt, with a subtle hint of vanilla and oak spice.
Oak char, old leather, stewed orchard fruit and vanilla sweetness returning among the smoky peat.
Lingering bonfire smoke, salted caramel and fresh berries.

Pi$$ poor - not what I expect from an independent bottler at all
Looks nice but delivers nothing else. No impact no interest. Just marketing BS and no care for spirit quality
Very one dimensional. Tastes like a 4 YO north easterly distillery that’s been matured in bad wood. Not good.
Delicious Islay Whisky. Not too over the top in terms of the Peat and just enough sweetness to balance everything out.
A inexpensive Islay whisky, worth the money for sure! Creamy with notes of vanilla custard, light peat smoke and leather. My guess would be Lagavulin, but not 100% sure
