Harmony - a rather apt word to describe this well-balanced Japanese blended whisky from the Hibiki range. Hibiki Japanese Harmony is made with malt whiskies from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, as well as grain whisky from the Chita distillery. The whiskies are drawn from five different types of cask, including American white oak casks, sherry casks and Mizunara oak casks. An elegant expression, with wafts of honey, orange, a herbaceous touch or two, and light oak.
Red berries, green apple and layers of rich honey.
Melted butter and caramelised dates. A hint of fragrant sandalwood develops into warming, oaky spice.
Brown sugar, citrus peels, white grape, and black pepper.
Really nice aroma, sweet and almost honey like. Thin body, and I found this similar in terms of taste. But it had quite a strong aftertaste, almost tingling but a sweetness there at the same time. I was going to rate lower, but I found this a much better whiskey when blending with a mixer or even watered down. That honey sweetness fares much better for me. This might be one that could grow on me even more.
I am a ‘regular’ whiskey drinker and drank this neat whilst watching watching tv. It’s incredibly light on colour like the colour of an almond shell with the scent of saki. A strong tasting whisky within the mouth, and going down, but not too harsh. It isn’t the smoothest of whiskies and feels raw or new rather than aged. It’s not a whisky I would buy again or particularly recommend as my preference is a darker, smoother blend but it was interesting to try something different.
Delightful floral nose, think Four Roses Bourbon but much, much smoother. Sweet & salty, with a hint of charcoal BBQ.
Hibiki hit me like a blended whisky acidic nose and assaulted the throat and back of my nose, quite smooth on the palette no afterburn but it felt like an AI version of whisky rather than a whisky itself if that makes sense ! Copied the flavour without the characteristics I’d expect in a whisky. Tasted better with Ice.
This whisky was a very pleasant surprise .. So different with a depth of flavours ..a brown sugar taste blended with a sharpness and a definite kick ... Would purchase this to surprise and impress friends ...
