The Helios distillery in Okinawa Japan may be more well-known for producing rums and awamori (a type of rice-based drink only produced in Okinawa), but they been known to dip their toe in the world of whisky. Kura The Whisky is a blended malt (or as the a label says, a "pure malt") produced by Helios and bottled at 40% ABV. Intriguing stuff...
Toasted oak and a touch of moss, creamy lemon and soft malt.
Brown sugar, burnt oak again (now with a touch of earthiness to it), lime marmalade.
Rye bread and a touch of bitter grape.
The low ratings are from folks who don’t like peat. As a lover of Islay scotch, this is my favorite Japanese whisky.
Easily in my top three worst whiskies of all time. Up there with Few single malt (liquid manure) and lakes “the one” olorosso (melted plastic). Tasted like a stagnant puddle. It was so bad it had me in genuine fits of laughter and just how awful it is.
It was so bad....
Was excited to try this Whiskey. If you like the smell of paint thinner then this one if for you. Not a fan at all.
Drinkable, but has a sniff of paint/turps to it, a drop of water mellows this taint, but not blown away by the false advertising leading to my purchase.
