The Helios distillery in Okinawa Japan may be more well-known for producing rums and awamori (a type of rice-based drink only produced in Okinawa), but they been known to dip their toe in the world of whisky. Kura The Whisky is a blended malt (or as the a label says, a "pure malt") produced by Helios and bottled at 40% ABV. Intriguing stuff...
Toasted oak and a touch of moss, creamy lemon and soft malt.
Brown sugar, burnt oak again (now with a touch of earthiness to it), lime marmalade.
Rye bread and a touch of bitter grape.
Very good, smooth whiskey with a touch of sweetness I guess coming from rum barrel with a very pleasant smoke finish
Not impressed at all. Expecting more.
Very accurate low end reviews on this site, I wish I had read them instead of making this benighted spontaneous purchase at Costco. Where do I start? The nose has a strong hint of antiseptic on a band-aid and might have singed a few nostril hairs. If arsenic wasn't tasteless, I imagine this is what it would taste like. The finish might have been tantamount to rusty razors blades. My co-tasters taste buds were also inconsolable. Since Costco does not except returns on alcohol, the next time I touch this bottle might be to disinfect my toilet.
I got a bottle of this from a friend who did not like Whisky and I have to say I truly enjoyed it very much even my wife who is very picky when it comes to any type of alcohol loved it. It does have a unique taste but very smooth and we enjoyed the smooth smokyafter taste of the whisky
People given this a bad rating have no clue about peated whisky. It’s very good. Sharp clean with a little smoke.
