When we first heard about the initial Haig Club being released with David Beckham we had a discussion at MoM Towers about what the price point would be. When it was eventually announced, however, it was quite a bit higher than the whiskies we'd previously assumed they'd be competing with. That's where Haig Club Clubman comes in, which will be the more "mainstream" variant.
The Clubman, a single grain Scotch whisky distilled at Cameronbridge and matured in ex-bourbon casks, is designed to be enjoyed with cola.
Inoffensive vanilla, nougat and caramel notes. With Beckham behind it, we can see plenty of vodka coke drinkers making the switch to Clubman and not looking back.
This is a decent whisky. For me it's as good as some whiskies' I have tried for around the £30 mark. Light in taste & I drink it neat or with a splash of water. Appears this is a bit of a Marmite product & I like Marmite.
Look I'll tell you something about this whisky that you won't read below. It's nice, very nice, if you're not a hard nosed whisky drinker. I use to be but then got into rum. Rum offers so much more variety of flavour and sweetness. I decided to try to get back into whisky and practically spat a couple of my favourites out, then I have this a try, had been sitting in my cabinet for a while. It's the only one that tasted nice. So there you are, a whisky for rum drinkers and good value
To all who try to drink this neat: Stop fooling yourself and buy a proper whisky instead. This is not a whisky (albeit it says so on the label). This is a one of the greatest cocktail spirits of all time. This is what all the good blends use for 'volume'. Because it doesn't stand in the way for the flavor you bring into the mix, it eases it, lifts it, gives it a plate to enjoy from. My personal preference is blending it half and half with Ardbeg Uigeadail for a whisky sour. The alcohol level becomes more manageable, and the smoke changes from a fist in the face to a nice and delicate lingering in the background. And seriously, who doesn't like a cocktail with Ardbeg in before supper or at a party?
I'm surprised this has such bad ratings. I like some much more expensive whiskys and yet also keep this in my cupboard, to drink neat and never as a mixer. There is some burn, which eases with the second (or 3rd or 4th!) glass, but the butterscotch and toffee flavours, for me, make it an easy drink when that's what I'm in the mood for. Not as good as Glenmorangie 10, but then 10 quid cheaper per bottle.
Harsh. Can sell for a ridiculous price. Grouse can be half the price and 5 times as good. Nice bottle has deceived me twice, never again!
