When we first heard about the initial Haig Club being released with David Beckham we had a discussion at MoM Towers about what the price point would be. When it was eventually announced, however, it was quite a bit higher than the whiskies we'd previously assumed they'd be competing with. That's where Haig Club Clubman comes in, which will be the more "mainstream" variant.
The Clubman, a single grain Scotch whisky distilled at Cameronbridge and matured in ex-bourbon casks, is designed to be enjoyed with cola.
Inoffensive vanilla, nougat and caramel notes. With Beckham behind it, we can see plenty of vodka coke drinkers making the switch to Clubman and not looking back.

A bit thin and weedy.....lacks depth and character. Glad I got it cheap.
As a single malt drinker, it will come as no surprise that this whisky doesn't hit my top ten list. That being said, I have to disagree with the one star rates. It would also seem that many people think that this whisky is only to mix with drinks like coke. I'm halfway down my first bottle drinking it neat and am not disappointed. This whisky would never be my firs choice go to whisky, it is however, a different whisky that I find perfectly drinkable. Get past your first few glasses (without a mixer), and you might just agree. Different can still be good.
This is basically an attempt to make an accessible whisky for people that just want something alcoholic to add to coke. The marketing, however, appears to have been designed to annoy anyone who actually already drinks and enjoys whisky. It's not a bad whisky. It's not a great one either. To say it is sweet is an understatement. Designed from the start to be used as a mixer (at least they're honest about this and actually it's a good idea-maybe some of the other producers should take note) and does this job well. It's better than most other blends at doing this job. Don't pay full price for it. £15 is about right if you can find it on offer. If you want to sip on a complex whisky in front of your fire then this isn't for you. If you're sunbathing in your garden or having a BBQ and you want a shot of whisky in your soft-drink then give it a go.
It's not a whisky drinkers drink. It's the type of drink that whisky mixing people will drink, not for the flavours or anything worth noting but for the ABV. It's set for just that market and will probably do well, but at this price anyone expecting a top quality whisky is an idiot. Too sweet, and not much else to it, not my dram of choice.
Without coke it's harsh but with a nice sweet after taste... with coke and crushed ice it's great. Given the choice of whiskey with coke I would go for monkey shoulder every time but, if that wasn't available I would happily settle for clubman. Worth £15
