Having spent 26 years in a bourbon hogshead, the Darkness! team didn't hesitate to move this whisky into a single rebuilt 50 litre oloroso cask for the final months of its maturation. It's what they do. The result is that over a short space of time, first fill Sherry character and complexity have been added to a fine Glenrothes that provided the perfect malty base.
Grapefruit, satsuma, pineapple. Sweet walnuts too, with raspberry coulis, malt wine, monkey nuts and chocolate glazed doughnuts. Chocolate malt (i.e. heavily roasted malt) and espresso develop.
Choco Leibniz, green apple, dark clove spice, juicy malt and golden honey. Pineapple fritters on the tail.
More pineapple chunks, Sherried spice and melted milk chocolate.
Malty whisky and Oloroso are a match made in heaven, with plenty of vibrant, often tropical, fruit and spice.
