    Glenmorangie Signet

This superb Glenmorangie was created with a marriage of whiskies produced from two unique types of malted barley: a single estate Cadboll variety and malted chocolate barley, which is better known as a basis for craft beers.

The Signet was distilled twice through Glenmorangie's copper-pot stills, by a team of 16 distillers known as the 'Sixteen Men of Tain'. It was subsequently matured in bespoke American virgin oak casks before it was bottled at 46%, and received no chill-filtration.

While it carries no-age-statement, there is said to be an element of some of the distillery's oldest and rarest stocks, ranging from 35 to 40 years old, in this Highland single malt.

The Signet won Whisky of the Year in 2016, and this edition takes it name from the ornate square design that adorns most Glenmorangie bottles. The signet itself originated from the Hilton of Cadboll Stone, a Pictish artefact that dates back to around the year 800 AD.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

The nose begins with chocolate raisins and sugared mixed peels. Toasted spices, bread and butter pudding and golden syrup complement these aromas, while a note of Angostura bitters lingers beneath.

    Palate

Sweet, syrupy cinnamon and drying malt lead, before a suggestion of Terry's Chocolate Orange rises. A hint of lime rind is present, as are lychees and dates. The backdrop is filled with tobacco leaves and freshly roasted espresso beans, with a little honey-roasted cashew.

    Finish

The finish dries and becomes pleasantly rubbery, as a touch of truffle oil emerges.

    Overall

    Utterly superb.

    Smooth, rich and creamy

    Reviews for Glenmorangie Signet

Purchased on recommendation and absolutely worth it. Unlike any other >£100 bottle I've sampled before. Stating a caramelesque 'warmth' in the flavour sounds pompous as hell, but it's accurate. Will certainly return to this in future.

Probably the best experience I’ve had with a single malt.

WOW ! Just look at its awards its picked up so you know this is going to be good, no its one of the most unique and best single malt whisky I’ve had. That chocolate malted cadboll barley whisky is chocolatey with Rosted coffee beans and rich dark and intense, seductive and like velvet on your tongue it just coats your mouth and all as I can say is that it’s intense from beginning to end but in the best of ways, it does not disappoint. If there was ever a sexy whisky in a bottle then this is it. It’s seductive and draws you in for more.

    Delighted with this

Waffled over whether to say 4.5 or 5 stars for a while, but went with 5. The nose changed so much after you actually taste it that it feels like someone swapped your drink out. I get the citrus rind taste quite prominently, but the smell is delicious, lots of chocolatey fruity bakery things working with each other there. I don't get the rubbery finish at all but maybe I'm just calling it something else?

    Excellent after dinner dram

A fantastic oily dram great after dinner that brings forward chocolate and coffee two of after dinner favorites in a glass. Savour the taste and don’t gulp it no matter how tempting it is Nose: Chocolate, hints of coffee, orange zest Taste: Chocolate ganache cake, hint of caramel, syrup of a marchino cherry, sweet toffee Finish: Long, oily that coats your tongue

Excellent- most unique whisky I've tried

I bought a bottle to celebrate getting married and was not disappointed. Extremely smooth and the most unique whisky I've had, with a flavour which completly changes from palate to finish. I typically drink Balvenie, Macallan, Glendronach and Glenallachie and this certainly sat nicely within my preferred tipples. Well worth a buy and I will be getting another at some point.
