    Glenmorangie Signet

This superb Glenmorangie was created with a marriage of whiskies produced from two unique types of malted barley: a single estate Cadboll variety and malted chocolate barley, which is better known as a basis for craft beers.

The Signet was distilled twice through Glenmorangie's copper-pot stills, by a team of 16 distillers known as the 'Sixteen Men of Tain'. It was subsequently matured in bespoke American virgin oak casks before it was bottled at 46%, and received no chill-filtration.

While it carries no-age-statement, there is said to be an element of some of the distillery's oldest and rarest stocks, ranging from 35 to 40 years old, in this Highland single malt.

The Signet won Whisky of the Year in 2016, and this edition takes it name from the ornate square design that adorns most Glenmorangie bottles. The signet itself originated from the Hilton of Cadboll Stone, a Pictish artefact that dates back to around the year 800 AD.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

The nose begins with chocolate raisins and sugared mixed peels. Toasted spices, bread and butter pudding and golden syrup complement these aromas, while a note of Angostura bitters lingers beneath.

    Palate

Sweet, syrupy cinnamon and drying malt lead, before a suggestion of Terry's Chocolate Orange rises. A hint of lime rind is present, as are lychees and dates. The backdrop is filled with tobacco leaves and freshly roasted espresso beans, with a little honey-roasted cashew.

    Finish

The finish dries and becomes pleasantly rubbery, as a touch of truffle oil emerges.

    Overall

    Utterly superb.

Good, but not at all impressive at this price

There are far better 10-12 year-old single malts from at a fraction of the price from numerous distilleries. This is a bottle you buy because of marketing, hype, and showiness, not for the whiskey. Not to say it isn't good, it is, but it is nothing special and certainly not worth the price tag. If you are bent on Glenmorangie, 12 year (the Lasanta) is a far, far superior single malt at a fraction of the price.

    Long wait is over

So I bought this with a couple of friends, split three ways as a single purchase was a little too rich for me but I've been eyeing this for the last 5 years based on the rave reviews. Typically I gravitate towards single malts from Islay (the other guys too) but have enjoyed some from other areas as well. We organized a tasting and the consensus was this is the best whisky we've had. Ahh...the nose! It is heaven...chocolate, tiramisu , coffee and orange peel. I honestly could just sit and smell it all day. (As an aside my wife and daughter who normally shudder at the smell of whisky really liked this), The complexity on the palate is off the chart. Chocolate orange and coffee but not overpowering anywhere. It tastes the same from front to top to sides and back and smoooooth!! There is viscosity, oily texture that only compliments the experience. Man this is good! Final result is the tasting resulted in the entire bottle gone, enuff said. An added bonus is the beautiful presentation, one of the prettiest bottles you will ever see, it's a keeper.

    It's Heavenly

This was my first foray into the $200 level for Scotch and I must say, I am satisfied beyond description. Prior to this, my favorite was Oban 14 @$75. While I don't strictly equate price with quality, you cannot completely ignore the data. On the nose, chocolate, butterscotch and tobacco. Its so complex, its a challenge to describe. Safe to say, my investment was rewarded.

My favourite whiskey of all time

One of the most luxurious & fulfilling whiskies that I've tasted in a while..Its simply perfect and a treat for my palate as I love the taste & smell of fruits & chocolate that continue to linger and swirl around my mind. Every tasting presents the discovery of other citrus elements along with honey, coffee and spices. Please drink this whiskey neat to honour its production. It's simply a piece of art and must be consumed in its entirety.

    Luxurious

Had a dream of this last night. I recommend leaving it to breath in the glass a little before your first sip. You really can pick up all of the flavours described. One of the best I've tried.
