12-year-old Kilkerran single malt from Campbeltown's Glengyle Distillery, which reopened back in 2004. The Kilkerran 12 Year Old is lightly peated and non-chill filtered, and has been matured in a classic combination of bourbon casks sherry casks.
Oak notes are dominant, followed by toasted marshmallows and dried fruit pudding, as well as cherries, marzipan and a hint of peat.
Initially fruity with citrus notes and orange peel, after this: vanilla, butterscotch, honeycomb and digestive biscuits can all be tasted and enjoyed.
Velvet and smooth with lemon meringue, to conclude, there’s an oiliness and a saltiness that you’d expect from a Campbeltown dram.

Wowzers! Best kept secret in the scotch world. This should be £50+ a bottle but it isn’t! How fantastic is that!? Don’t believe me, try a dram and be convinced. I’m honestly considering buying an entire case of this. The way scotch prices are going...
Very full bodied for something with such a light color. I really enjoy the complexity and balance of the Campbeltown whiskys I have tried so far. As a retailer I can't believe these don't fly off the shelf as they should.
Hate to give it 5 stars, since sooner or later this majestic dram will repeat the path of Yamazaki 12 and I won't be able to enjoy it whenever I want. This is $100 dram sold in a $40 bottle.
Having tried a few of the 'Work in Progress' bottles, I was looking forward to this 12 yo and I was not disappointed: this is, quite simply, a brilliant whisky. I always look for unchillfiltered /no added colour and a good proof (46+) and this fits the bill. What surprised me was its smoothness and its substantial 'feel' in the mouth. This, added to all the typical Campbeltown flavours, makes this a winner for me. Up there with the best of Springbank and Glen Scotia.
This dram is a treat. Like the Springbank 10, it has the complexity, mouth feel and robustness but with nicely subtle touch of peat which is nicely balanced by its soft fruitiness. Great value like SB10 and unchillfiltered with no color added at 46Abv, qualifies for a Ralfy award. For me, it's a poor man's Highland Park 18. A huge compliment.
