Greetings, weary internet traveller, and behold another fantastic Old Malt Cask bottling from Hunter Laing! This one is a 21 year old Glengoyne, drawn from a single refill hogshead which was filled in December 1995 and emptied in February 2017. 282 bottles were produced.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Anise, toffee, dried apple chips, sponge cake covered in custard.

Palate

Subtly chocolatey. Robust malt at the core, complimented by light oak and honey.

Finish

Orange bitterness, with another touch of dark chocolate.

So glad I decided to try this whisky

Initially I get Citrus on the Nose (Orange and or lemon peel maybe) , Some crisp oak and light sweetness on the palate, and (very) subtle hints of dark chocolate bitterness. Some light dusty barley on the finish, with lingering dark chocolate bitterness. . . after a few minutes I started to get the anise on the nose mentioned in the tasting notes, but it's subtle. . . actually I'm finding everything about this whisky to be subtle. . . . a few minutes more and the green (Granny Smith) apple is starting to show up. There is a certain crispness to this whisky, but it's not like a young spirit crisp burn. . . a little more time and the apple on the nose becomes more prominent, and it starts to carry over to the finish, and the dark chocolate builds. . . . The light citrus on the nose remain throughout, but the apple starts to take over . . .a little while more. (somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes after pouring), and the dark chocolate is just "Boom!"
