After laying silent for over two decades, the Glenglassaugh stills were fired back up in 2008, and in 2023, a brand new core range is ready! The distillery sits on the rugged north Aberdeenshire coast, nestled behind the beautiful surfer's haven, Sandend Bay. Master blender Rachel Barrie has fond childhood memories of time spent at Sandend and even learned to surf there, and now the bay is honoured in the form of this unpeated single malt. Matured in a combo of bourbon, sherry, and manzanilla casks, it's bursting with notes of tropical fruit and tablet, with delicate coastal salinity in the distance.
We're met with delightful notes of buttery fudge, vanilla ice cream, candied mango, and salted papaya.
Tablet, mango, and toasted vanilla trickle throughout, backed by boiled pineapple sweeties and creamy barley.
Grapefruit and juicy berries, more vanilla and butterscotch, and a distant coastal breeze.
This was a gift from a dear friend. It is a very fine dram. You notice immediatley it has a higher alcohol content and it encourages a more sedate approach. The nose is quite strong and on the palate I got honey and a marmalade taste. A drop of water releases the flavour even more. Don't I sound pretentious ..... simply, its one hell of a dram.
I saw this advertised on Google of all places and from the description, it seemed to tick a lot of boxes. So I went for it. I’m glad that I did. At 50% this whisky has a lot of depth with fruit and nuts vying for supremacy. This is great at the price and I’ll definitely be coming back for more
This is an excellent whisky. Honey coloured and lighter in body than some but full of flavour and its own character. Its very easy to enjoy and has become a real favourite.
Delicious
