After laying silent for over two decades, the Glenglassaugh stills were fired back up in 2008, and in 2023, a brand new core range is ready! The distillery sits on the rugged north Aberdeenshire coast, nestled behind the beautiful surfer's haven, Sandend Bay. Master blender Rachel Barrie has fond childhood memories of time spent at Sandend and even learned to surf there, and now the bay is honoured in the form of this unpeated single malt. Matured in a combo of bourbon, sherry, and manzanilla casks, it's bursting with notes of tropical fruit and tablet, with delicate coastal salinity in the distance.
We're met with delightful notes of buttery fudge, vanilla ice cream, candied mango, and salted papaya.
Tablet, mango, and toasted vanilla trickle throughout, backed by boiled pineapple sweeties and creamy barley.
Grapefruit and juicy berries, more vanilla and butterscotch, and a distant coastal breeze.
This one surprised me. Unique flavors from the casks. Rich, buttery, creamy barley and honeyed cereal notes plus crisp fruit, butterscotch and toffee. This is one to take your time with and sip slowly adding some water a little at a time to find the sweet spot of opening it up and cutting the 101 proof down to your preferred proof. I think this is nearly perfect at 85-90 proof. Paid $70 for it and may be the best non peated, non Islay (my favorite scotches are from Islay) in 2024 so far.
This is the perfect aperitiv whisky. Light, bright, salty and best of all......briney. The sort of whisky you'd have with some lovely plump green olives. I love it. I poured this for two female non-whisky fans and they loved it too. It's that good.
Was a gift from my daughter who'd seen it on my 'wish list'! She obviously did her research as this is a great whisky. I found that the MOM notes were pretty much what I got, and definitely a 'moreish' and an easy drinking whisky. Would recommend.
Great liquid and I can see why it won whisky of the year last year. Absolutely delicious! Beautifully light with vanillas, chocolate and tropical flavours, with a touch of salt. Mixes really well into a longer drink and cocktails.
Heard lots of great things about this one so had to give it a go - worth the hype - on the sweeter side and definitely one of the best non age I’ve tried
