Glenfiddich
Scotland
Single Malt
Part of Glenfiddich's Experimental Series comes a single malt which was finished for three months in casks which previously held IPA! Created collaboratively by Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman and IPA expert Seb Jones, the IPA which was in the casks before the whisky was specially brewed for this expression by the Speyside Craft Brewery. Bound to be a fascinating whisky for whisky and beer enthusiasts alike (and the cross-over of that Venn diagram, too).
Honey'd malt, jam tart (the kind with marmalade, specifically), pear drops.
Treacle and sponge cake. Spicy hop notes begin to take shape, followed by hints of bitter citrus peel.
Light oak, melted butter and coffee bean.
I reserved judgement on this until I'd had another glass .. not impressed and for me abandon this experiment .. I prefer the Twelve and whatever they have done here has not enhanced or improved it .. quite the opposite .. disappointed I bought this ...
Its ok. As an ipa drinker myself I enjoyed this. Think its punching above its weight at 44 quid though. Can get much better stuff for that price
I love the smell but I love IPAs. Double better. I have had worse scotches. Taste is ok. Doesn’t go bad in mouth after
The IPA barrels add a bit of a tart bitterness. Not the best complement to a Glenfiddich that doesn't have a lot of character in the first place.
I would normally avoid Glenfiddich but I really enjoyed the distinctive flavours of this one. I’m picking up the hops and loving them
