    Rum Finish

Glenfiddich Experimental Series - Fire & Cane

Let the great experiment... Continue! Glenfiddich has added a new expression to its Experimental Series, unveiling Fire & Cane in mid-2018. Malt master Brian Kinsman has given some of the distillery's peated single malt a three-month finishing period in rum casks - but not just any old rum casks. He's selected rum casks from a variety of South American countries to finish this whisky, which ought to play nicely with the burly peat notes at its core.

    Tasting Note by The Producer

    Nose

Billowing soft peat notes, like distant smoke on the wind. Rich sweet toffee with zesty fresh fruit notes and spiciness.

    Palate

Like a Highland peat campfire, with oak notes and toffee. Sharp green fruit, sweet baked apple and soft smoke.

    Finish

    Lingering smokiness and sweetness.

Tasted it today Nov 8th after I came home from work ( wife bought it, and it was in a cold car all day)' I directly noticed a faint "dark" Rum scent and I had a good sip rolled it around in my mouth and drew breath in to "air" it. I did notice a medium peatyness which wasn't unpleasnt at all. it clings nicely to the glass and it holds its flavours for a decent amount of time.. I let the rest adjust to room temperature and low and behold!! the Rum characteristica was even stronger taste wise but the scent was clearly more peated. Then I tried it with DARK choclate and the bitterness of the choclate vis a vis the rum flavour was a match in heaven.( haven't tried it with cheese yet but that will come and I will leave a review of that experience too.So it was/is a VERY nice surprise. I've had a lot of those port and sherry casked ones in the past, but they are becoming a tad of a "Bakers dozen" Same goes for Burbon casked ones. But this is a thing I think should be a "base" in the Glenfiddich repetoire.

    Sit back and enjoy

Found this one interesting when tasting at the Whisky Stramash, with sensation of a peaty and sweetness coming through, as I am not a lover of the twelve year old Glenfiddich

    Sweet & Smokey perfection

I now love glenfiddich. This dram is far more complex and rewarding than any other speymalt I've experienced.

    Harsh and flavourless.

Personally I found this shallow in flavour and very harsh. It’s a sad day when I have a whisky in my cuboard that I’m loath to drink. Think this ones going to sit around for a while.

    Very very Quaffable

My self and a colleague at work are whisky connoisseurs' and exchange samples he brought me this one this week and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience with me taking my time drinking it that my wife thought I didn't like it but it was brilliant
