    Glenfarclas 10 Year Old

From the renowned Glenfarclas Distillery, this delicate whisky is a wonderful expression of the Speyside style. Matured in 100% Oloroso sherry casks, it offers far more complexity than you’d expect from a 10-year-old dram. A smooth, welcoming whisky that’s become the understated favourite in many a collection. Excellent as an aperitif, and excellent value.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Lots of juicy, sweet, sherry notes combined with malt and barley. Creamy hints of toffee give way to delicate honey, vanilla, and orchard fruits.

    Palate

Delicious sherry sweetness and dried fruits, with complex, delicate winter spices and fruitcake. Light toffee, and a hint of smoke.

    Finish

Long, smooth, spicy and fruity, with a touch of oak.

    Glenfarclas 10 Year old -

Nose. Light Sherried malt. Plums. Raisins. A little Coffee. Chocolate. Oak spice. Minimal struck matches. A very nice sherry monsterette of a nose. Not intensive. Pleasant. Easy to sniff for a long duration Palate. Fruity coating taste. Surprisingly mouth coating considering ABV etc. sweet spicy sherried taste. Some easy warmth. All the flavours from the nose are present. Very easy drinking. Finish. Short. Drying. Sherry oak spices. Some coffee mocha. Adding water? Just a drop in my dram to see. The nose is weakened. Not quite as sherried but a little more coffee seems apparent. Coffee flavoured toffos! if you can remember those? The palate looses some of the mouthfeel. The taste remains intact. The finish a little more coffee’d. Hmmm. With or without? I think personally I would go with dependant on my mood. I like the standalone mouthfeel. But I like the coffee in the finish which makes this malt for me a little more unique than your more regular sherried drams.

    Butter Spice Fruit

Vanilla, guava, and ground coriander aromas. Palate adds oaky nutmeg, pear & orange, and a touch of salt. Not overtly sweet & fruity, but rather sophisticated.

Drank a miniature bottle. Surprisingly very good, smooth and full of flavour. Now I want to try and fund a full bottle.
