Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey is a single grain Irish whiskey, initially matured in American bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period of six months in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks. This comes bottled at 42% ABV, brought down to this strength by Wicklow mountain water. A rather tasty release presented by Glendalough, rich in vanilla, caramel, Christmas spices and dried fruit notes.
A creamy, malty nose begins with rich vanilla, white chocolate and buttery fudge. Notes of cooking apples, white grapes, marzipan icing and toasted oak form in the backdrop.
Succulent caramel, salty melted butter and crème anglaise provide a thick, decadent sweetness with a fruity underlay from blackberries and marmalade.
Polished oak and a hint of wood spice linger.
$33.03 - $78.60
Most artificial tasting whiskey at that price. If you drink it mix some lime with the cola. Drinking it straight is a disappointment.
My favourite. Whiskey as it should be. A touch of caramel with a warm whiskey flavour. Smooth but with an bit of a burn.
Tried this in O'Reagan's bar in Shannon. After a pint of Guinness. Nose was quite harsh but went down smoothly - rich taste like a fruit cake but not necessarily sweet - and then a slight burn a few moments later. However, I'm giving this 5 stars as its not pricey, it does go down well and it occurred to me that if I was catching up with old friends this would really get us on the way to babble and madness. I'm a fan ?
This is a tremendous Irish whiskey. Vanilla comes out you’re strong on the first sip and then finishes with a hint of oak. Really a fantastic pour. Wish it were more readily available in the US.
bought on sale. Incredible value! bourbon barrel gives it the vanilla and baking spice you want, oloroso mellows it well. 2 rocks and zero burn. Could drink way to much of this fine Irish whiskey.
