GlenAllachie
Scotland
Single Malt
Batch 11 of GlenAllachie's 10 Year Old Cask Strength welcomes a shiny new design for the beloved single malt, produced under the watchful eye of master distiller Billy Walker and demonstrating the importance of his masterful cask management. This edition marries single malt matured in Pedro Ximénez, oloroso, red wine and virgin oak casks, and was bottled at a natural cask strength of 59.4% ABV.
Chocolate coffee beans, honeycomb, treacle, and cinnamon, with fluffy pancakes and butterscotch beneath.
Rich layers of cocoa and dark chocolate, cinder toffee, and dried red berries.
Toasted hazelnuts, ginger, juicy plums, Black Forest gâteau, and a touch of liquorice.
This is everything you’d expect from the current Glenallachie. Slightly dirtier than I expected. Those dunnage/sherry notes. A mustiness dilutes the cloying sweetness leaving a well balanced barrage of fruits and wood flavours. Water brings out some of the jams. Tannic. Bold. A tamed flavour bomb.
Tasty sherried heavyweight, lacking the sweet jamminess of the 15, instead the rioja maturation gives it a tannic edge. It takes water well!
absolutly fantastic!
Don't know what one of the reviewers is smoking, but this whisky is absolutely stunning. The reason why I am not going with 5/5 is that given it's 10 year old, finish is not too long but overall this is an extremely good buy. Rarely get soo much taste from such a young whisky.
really don't know what the hype is about these batches. I'd rather get a solid blend or malts like cragganmore 12. whisky snobs just drooling over this because of high ABV is just laughable
