Batch 11 of GlenAllachie's 10 Year Old Cask Strength welcomes a shiny new design for the beloved single malt, produced under the watchful eye of master distiller Billy Walker and demonstrating the importance of his masterful cask management. This edition marries single malt matured in Pedro Ximénez, oloroso, red wine and virgin oak casks, and was bottled at a natural cask strength of 59.4% ABV.
Chocolate coffee beans, honeycomb, treacle, and cinnamon, with fluffy pancakes and butterscotch beneath.
Rich layers of cocoa and dark chocolate, cinder toffee, and dried red berries.
Toasted hazelnuts, ginger, juicy plums, Black Forest gâteau, and a touch of liquorice.
$7.91 - $110.19
This blend surprised me with a very tasteful aroma of sherry and caramel, but although with a well balanced finish. A good buy.
lovely sweet raisins, banana and all coated in dark muscovado . super finish too. a splash of o2 makes it even more sherried... a win,win winner.
The taste is hidden behind a strong alcoholic punch. Quite different from the previous batch.
I've just opened my first ever Glenallachie cask strength bottle & it certainly packs a punch. Nose - Wood polish & alcohol to the fore before aromas filter through. Spicy on the palate ! With water there's still a bite before brief milk chocolate, stewed cherries, a little orange & wine notes come through. Finish is spicy, mouth drying & medium at best. I'm hoping it improves the more the bottle is opened.
I never tasted batch 4, but was hooked on the brilliant batch 5, with its multiple layers of flavour - my perfect dram! This one is better than batch 8, which was really rich and powerful but seemed to have lost the subtleties of 5 & 6. So, my view - an excellent offering, intense and smoky, heavily sherry loaded as always. And, with the fruitiness and tarry creosote hints returning, the 10 y.o. CS is back on top form. Love it! It can be sipped neat (very slowly!), but I find it best with a generous splash of water, even down to below 40% (which is unusual for me and a rare compliment).
