Wine Cask
Part of GlenAllachie's single cask series comes this 10 Year Old single malt! The Speysider was distilled in 2008 and then matured in a single Marsala hogshead for a decade. It was bottled in August 2019 at cask strength, with an outturn of 283 bottles at 57.4% ABV. Expect lots of honeyed, syrupy notes in this one.
Tinned pineapple, with fruity syrup, apple skin, mint tea and honeyed baking spice.
Lots of toffee and dried fruit, with apricot jam, cinnamon swirl and more honey.
Candied orange and orange blossom, with floral honey lingering.
Tried at a tasting event - it's good, really good. Certainly up's the complexity compared to the others in GlenAllachie's range. The spiciness isn't allowed to dominate and the other flavours really gel together. I thought this was a really good one, though the finish is potent - I'm not one for adding water, even to single cask whiskies, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone doing so - a little too intense for my liking, but overall pretty good stuff.
