Mossburn

An indie bottling of Glen Spey, bottled up by the wonderful Mossburn for its Vintage Casks series. Distilled in 2008, it then spent a decade ageing until April 2019 when the cask was cracked open. As always with Mossburn, the liquid was bottled without chilfiltration or colouring, with this expression weighing in at a cask strength of 55.9% ABV.
Lots of fresh malt, with light menthol aromas, fresh grass, honey and pencil shavings.
Toasted malt with a sprinkle of brown sugar, with orange peel, fresh herbs and vanilla pod.
Aniseed and more menthol return on the finish alongside oily malt.

a pleasantly robust dram and wonderful winter warmer, with subtleness of flavour, rather than in-your-face. At 55.9%, a little water mix takes away strength on the palate and becomes remarkably smooth, but the warmth still lingers strongly on the finish.
