1797 Founder's Reserve is the new offering from Glen Garioch (pronounced Glen 'Geery').
Lively, oily, slightly peppery malt. Some creamy Danish Blue balanced by hints of citrus including lime and grapefruit squash.
Chocolate lime sweets and brandy butter. With water there's more allspice, dessert wine, barley malt and cured ham.
Oak, some subtle smoke, green apple skin and more chocolate limes.
A character-filled no age-statement release named in celebration of Glen Garioch's co-founders the Manson Brothers. But wait... wouldn't that make it either "Founders' Reserve" (or "Founders Reserve")?!

This stuff isn't easy to find here in California but I found it and I'm glad I did. I'm a big fan of these lightly sherried highlands and this is a really good one. You get the typical burning hay and honey flavor of a highland with a longer fruity/cinnamon finish from the sherry cask influence. Also for 48% actually very smooth and drinkable this is definitely a welcome addition to my whisky cabinet. EXCELLENT SMELL
I was given a litre bottle from a friend with airport connections and been delighted with its smooth caramel with a hint of nutmeg. There's no age on this malt and the label says 46%. Recommended!
Loads of flavor and smooth finish
