Unfortunately, we can't ship Garnheath 42 Year Old 1974 (cask 11209) - Xtra Old Particular (Douglas Laing) to the United States at the moment, but we've got some friends who can.
This is a bottling of single grain Scotch whisky from the Garneath distillery, which you certainly don't see every day, considering it closed all the way back in 1988! Bottled as part of Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range, this rare whisky was aged in a single refill barrel for 42 years, from February 1974 to June 2016. Only 130 bottles were produced.
Nose: Maple syrup generously poured over American-style pancakes, light hints of pineapple and banana, thick vanilla.
Palate: Developing notes of dried fruit and sponge cake (with whipped cream too!), alongside more fresh fruit.
Finish: Spicier later on with cinnamon and clove - almost a little Christmas-y!

Nose: Lots of oak, rather brackish scent, a tad of acetone. After that a sweeter touch. Vanilla, buttercream, bisquit. Orange blossom, polenta.Palate: Slightly bitter, sour undertone. Oak. Furthermore sober but exeptionally well balanced. Again precense of airy bisquits and almonds. Obvious grain notes. Gives a slight impression of coldness on the tongue despites being served at room temp.Finish: Vanilla, oak, familiar grain notes. Late on a hint of sanguine zeste (blood orange zeste).Overall a very enjoyable grain whisky. Would buy again.-SD
