Garnheath 42 Year Old 1974 (cask 11209) - Xtra Old Particular (Douglas Laing)

This is a bottling of single grain Scotch whisky from the Garneath distillery, which you certainly don't see every day, considering it closed all the way back in 1988! Bottled as part of Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range, this rare whisky was aged in a single refill barrel for 42 years, from February 1974 to June 2016. Only 130 bottles were produced.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Maple syrup generously poured over American-style pancakes, light hints of pineapple and banana, thick vanilla.

Palate

Developing notes of dried fruit and sponge cake (with whipped cream too!), alongside more fresh fruit.

Finish

Spicier later on with cinnamon and clove - almost a little Christmas-y!
