A blended Japanese whisky made with malts and grains from distilleries on Japan's Honshu island. For those not keeping track, that's the main island of Japan, housing the lion's share of Japanese whisky distilleries. The label features some sort of giant snake/dragon with many people hands confronting a rightfully-confused chap with a sweet mask.
Greengages, sandalwood, a touch of earthy peat followed by slowly developing hints of buttered rye.
Rounded orchard fruit sweetness comes up against savoury grains and subtle nutmeg warmth.
Dusty oak and earthy vanilla pod.
A friend brought as a gift after vacationing in Japan ..it is really bright and light. My favourite tipple is Bushmills Black Bush and I also love single pot stills such as Writers Tears. Are you sure this was not triple distilled in Ireland then shipped to Honshu for bottling.. Amazing product ...well done!!!
Nose - Eucalyptus at first. Leave it in the glass for a minute and that's tamed by pine needles and slight peat. Palate - I get pine resin, chocolate, and faint herbal notes. Finish - This is where it let me down a little. Oaky and vanilla, but not especially lingering. It's weird. I'm getting a much more pleasant whisky than a lot of reviews here would seem to indicate, and it's quite a different whisky to what the MoM taster(s) seem to be saying on several points. I'd be interested to know what went in the blend to try and pick out which influences I'm picking up on because this one kind of landed for me.
Bought this one on impulse and it’s much different than what I’m used to. It’s very light and delicate without a whole lot going for the nose. The palate has that fruit/honeyed sweetness, but is very light with no burn going down and almost dangerously easy to drink. Not much to this whisky, but it’s good for what it is… plus the label is cool.
There no raw alcohol or acetone I this. It's delicate and gentle. Maybe no it a standard whisky drinkers whisky, but it's a well made whisky that is enjoyable to drink, soft, ephemeral and far too easy to drink.
Trash skip it or regret it. This whiskey smells 100% of 'wet dog' tails and tastes artificially sweet. Don't make the same mistake I did and buy a whiskey that isn't actually made in Japan it's just sent and bottled there and is nothing like good Japanese whiskey.
