Whisky from the closed Dumbarton Distillery, matured for a very long time indeed. This right here is a 55 year old single grain, distilled by Dumbarton back in December 1964 and matured in a refill hogshead. Over half a century later, Douglas Laing bottled it up appropriately as part of the Xtra Old Particular range. Just 215 bottles were produced.
The nose opens gloriously with Scottish honey, maple syrup, candied apples and a polished wood style.
The palate is gentle yet lively with spice (ginger and nutmeg) and a milk chocolate richness.
The finish is lengthy with poached pears, pistachios, marmalade on toast and crème brûlée.
