Independently bottled by Wemyss Malts comes this cracking dram from Dufftown. Distilled in 2008, the single malt was matured in a single hogshead cask for 14 years, which finally yielded an outturn of 308 bottles when the folks at Wemyss cracked it open. With plenty of juicy stone fruit and burnt sugar character, it's a superb sipper from the Speyside-based distillery.
Homemade marmalade and fresh hay. Honeyed flapjack, candied pecans, and vanilla.
Runny caramel and creamy vanilla soften notes of buttered fennel while oily oak and soft stone fruits bring juicy sweetness.
Treacle toffee arrives, along with sweet baking spices, salted fudge, and a hint of cinnamon heat.

For its age, surprisingly thin. On the nose there was a hint of maybe green apple, but not much else. The palate starts to go sweetly oily, but the (perfectly normal) ABV overwhelms everything, and you're left with a short, hot finish. I would have pegged this for half its age. Never did get any of that purported peach, and didn't improve with a couple drops of water.
