22 Year Old Whisky - Chestnut Cask Finish (Defilement)
This right here is a 22 year old whisky which has been treated to a finishing period in a chestnut wood cask, bottled up as part of the Defilement range. Now, we know that's sentence is a little low on details, but there's a reason for that. Regulations surrounding a particularly popular style of whisky from a certain location say that it can only be matured in oak, and chestnut wood is not oak. As such, it can only be called "whisky" – but what a whisky indeed! It's a fascinating expression, with complex woody notes juxtaposed by vibrant fruit and a good flash of spice.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Waxy orange peels, dense caramel, cigar box richness leading to walnut and clove.
Palate
Creamy toffee, antique wooden furniture, toasted almonds, a little hint of cinnamon developing.
Finish
Subtle touches of lemon linger, contrasted by more warming tobacco notes.
Overall
A unique whisky, and a delicious one at that.
