Another organic single malt Scotch whisky from the wonderfully traditional Deanston distillery, aged for 14 years. For this expression, the whisky has been matured in bourbon casks before enjoying a finishing period in new oak casks.
Cedar and vanilla, with a waft of freshly laundered linen.
Thyme honey, mango and mandarin. Some flaky pastry. Another kick of spicy cedar from the new oak casks.
Creamy at first, but develops a hint of peppercorn spiciness.
Smooth, sweet which leaves a little kick
Not my usual pick, but the grassy and herbal character, light notes of fruit and peppery finish make for a pleasant dram. Reminds me of spring! I agree with the other reviewers though, I would be left wanting slightly if I had shelled out £75 for a full size bottle.
Not quite the level of complexity I’d expect for the price tag, but extremely good none the less. Rather savoury, somehow masculine whilst remaining bright and easy drinking.
I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of sticking the organic label on existing vintages and presenting them as something different. However, the Deanston 14 year old organic is absolutely lovely! It has a long and complex finish where all of the flavours in the tasting notes fight to be tasted.
