A cracking addition to The Ensemble Collection from Dalmore, this litre bottle of The Trio was originally released as a Travel Retail exclusive. After initially maturing in ex-bourbon casks, the single malt was divided between a combination of more first-fill ex-bourbon casks, tawny Port pipes, and Matusalem sherry casks, before coming together again in this delicious harmony.
Heaps of tangy, zesty fruit with notes of dried cranberry, orange peel, and cherry chocolate.
Still fruity with dark berry compote and stewed plums. Hints of leathery oak creep in, with creamy barley and buttered shortbread.
A touch of woody anise and clove are balanced by silken caramel, rounded off with plenty of oaken vanilla.

It could be a perfect whiskey, because it has an excellent flavor, product of the combination of maturation and finish in three types of barrels. However, it lacks body, it is very light given its 40 proof, so if it were at least 43 proof or 46 proof, it would be perfect. It is highly recommended if you are not very demanding or do not have a very experienced palate. A friend gave it to me as a gift and I am enjoying it quite a bit.
Absolutely fantastic. Superbly crafted and can compete with whisky’s in higher price brackets. Was lucky to pick this up at a duty free - now have to ensure it isn’t empty too quickly!
