A deliciously intriguing Irish whiskey here from Currach, the single malt was finished in seaweed charred casks! See, we told you it was intriguing. The casks didn't previously hold seaweed – Atlantic seaweed was actually used to char the casks! The team behind the whiskey harvested kombu seaweed from the coast of County Clare and charred the casks with it, imparting heaps of umami notes to the wood, and then in went the whiskey itself for a three month finish. Funky stuff!
Caramel and earthy vanilla leads into green oak and a savoury, roasted undertone.
Caramelised nuts and salted caramel, with digestive biscuits, smoked seaweed and bitter dark chocolate in support.
Sweet and salty, with roasted coffee bean, toffee and umami notes lingering.
