Craigellachie
Scotland
One of four official bottlings from the Craigellachie distillery released in 2014 (after a long time of seeing very few official bottlings of theirs). The 23 year old is the oldest of the bunch, bringing plenty of bold fruit, complex herbs, refined oak and a touch of sulphur.
Lemon, orange and pineapple up front, backed up by warm oak and golden barley. Oak notes become increasingly toasty as it goes on.
Salted caramel, creamy vanilla and more orange zest. Cinnamon, nutmeg and a subtle whiff of sulphur give it plenty of depth.
The sulphur lasts, but it's not overpowering - the sweet spices bring balance to the long finish.
£9.60 - £119.90
One of the best wiskey
This is a good dram no doubt but the logarithmic pricing strategy Craigellachie have adopted is insane. At £100 to £130 I'd recommend this. At nearly £400 ignore - you're being taken to the cleaners. It's lovely but the price is not acceptable for a core range product still in wide circulation and that's only marginally better than the 13 year old. That said, you might be loaded and couldn't care less about the price.
A magnificent wedding gift from an old friend. Something I would never have splashed out for myself and am amazed I can taste the difference. Complex and oddly fruity.
This can be had for €215 in Germany. Bonkers money.
MA-STER-PIECE!
