One of the three official Craigellachie bottlings released in 2014, the distillery's 13-year-old single malt Scotch whisky handsomely shows off the bold, robust character of the distillery's output. Think heaps of dynamic fruit notes with a distinctive current of smoke running through the middle. Single malt Craigellachie wasn't seen much outside of indie bottlings for a long time, and we don't take for granted how lovely it is to see Speysider thrive.
You can read more about Craigellachie on the Master of Malt blog.
Apple orchards in bloom, slightly meaty, burnt popcorn, treacle tart.
Oily malt arrives first, followed by BBQ pineapple and summer berries. Pine nuts and almonds.
A very soft hint of sulphur hides behind biscuit and apple notes.
£9.60 - £114.95
The experience lasts much longer than the finish. Big, bold, fruity and robust WUMP!!! arrival. Flashy and showy in all the right ways. Fruit first then warming sweet winter pudding spices by a wood fire and hearty chuckles with an old friend. No ice needed... or water. Develop is well enough but doesn't live up to the promise of the arrival...yet you are patient...only to be greated with a medium finish thats a tadd short tempered. So you have another sip... pleasantly surprised once more.
A well balance spirit without heavily peated overtones, plenty of fruit and butterscotch on my palate. I am a lover of Speyside whiskies and this is “top drawer” in my opinion. Let’s just say that I like to have one open and one in reserve!
I have Approx 20 bottles of quality malts on the go at any one time (as variety is the spice of life!) I go to Scotland for whiskey regularly. This is hands down the best quality whiskey you will find for under £500. I have introduced many friends and family to this and it's always the firm favourite. On my 3rd bottle now, if I could give 6 stars I would
I have had a few bottles of this, its always impressed me. I get Butterscotch, Orange Blossom and marmalade, hints of pear and toffee. For the price its a good buy. I never picked the meaty or sulphorus notes other reviewers have remarked on. I have picked up plenty of sulphur notes on the more expensive Macallans though.
Seriously good drop. Very distinctive old school Speyside flavour. Right up there for me, and now on my second bottle.
