A peated French whisky here! Dubbed Exhalation, this single malt from Cortoisie is distilled in Lorraine, though the peat itself actually comes from Germany. The majority of the whisky is matured in French oak, a third of which are new, while the rest is aged in American oak.
Red fruit, plum skin and ripe apple, with a whiff of smoke alongside.
Fresh, sweet malt, with more cooked red fruit, salty smoke and baking spices.
A crack of black pepper and smoky cigar box lingers.
A curiosity buy and one I'm glad I made. The whisky has a distinct autumnal nose which is very inviting. Smooth taste, reasonably complex and pleasantly sweet. The autumnal fruit smell is there on the palate. The peat is subdued . Some nice spices including liquorice. The fruit lingered which was rather calming. This was actually my first French malt and I really enjoyed this bottle of Cortoisie Exhalation.
Pleasantly not shit, like I thought it would be. Give it a go.
