Arguably the most important peated Irish whiskey, Connemara was the first in the modern era of renaissance to remind folks that Irish whiskey can be smoky. In fact, it often was, and Connemara Peated Whiskey is inspired by the whiskies that would have been made over the centuries in Ireland in areas like the one that gives the expression its name. Turf (as the Irish often call peat) was what was available to the early whiskey makers, so prior to the 20th century, peated whiskey was commonplace in Ireland. Connemara whiskey is produced at the famous Cooley Distillery and has a distinct but still delicate smokiness, balanced by a smooth texture and sweet taste. This profile has been highly decorated, receiving over 20 medals from major spirits competitions since 2012.
Well-smoked and peated, heather freshness and floral notes with a honeyed sweetness and a little wood.
Full and smooth with notes of malt and peat, honeyed smoke and barley sweetness.
Long and pungent with honey and peat smoke.
I tried this based on the description on the case. QUOTE rich malt and fruit flavours, underlying vanilla tones and deep full-bodied peat ENDQUOTE And would have to agree. The sweetness may not be for some. I liked the smokiness. My girlfriend said she could smell it across the table and found it a bit overpowering but it is indeed as intended.
I can only concur with other reviews , dreadful whisky I fail to see how anybody with any discernible pallet could like this whisky. Do yourself a favour and buy some mouthwash , the cheapest you can find . This whisky is a disgrace !!
I bought this in Dublin airport duty free and on inspection of the bottle i realise that I had stayed previously on holiday only half a mile from the distillery on the Cooley Peninsula near Dundalk (a long way from Connemara!). It's a lovely dram. Light and sweet and mildly peated. For the price it's a steal. No age statement so obviously young but this is a great product for the price.
Dear lord I just swilled my mouth with TCP. No sweetness and the smokiness of an ashtray ... would avoid.
First time I saw this piece I was a little sceptical, but in the end it's exactly what you expect. It's light and sweet (as an irish whisky should be) with a good whiff of peat and smoke. Still I feel that it has some strength missing for perfection. But then again, if I wanted a stronger piece, I'd grab scottish. Solid 4/5
