Master of Malt exclusive!
Those folks at Douglas Laing have a knack for picking out a good single cask when they see one, and this one from Caol Ila is a cracking example! Distilled in January 2011, it spent the next 11 years maturing in a refill butt, until it was bottled up in January 2022 for the Old Particular, Fanatical About Flavour series. With a total of 314 bottles released, this one is a Master of Malt exclusive don't you know, so you won't find it anywhere else.
Classicly coastal with chalky grist, salty spray, peat, and tar.
Mouth-coating, oily malt leads the way for a hefty hit of spice. Medicinal peat smoke with smouldering embers and earthy ash are lifted by a touch of seaweed and lemon zest.
Drying charcoal, yet more seaside bonfire character with sooty salinity and wood smoke. Dried fruits, cinnamon, and mixed spice bring zesty, peppery warmth.

An excellent dram, ticks all boxes, I like this, classic islay, you can detect certain subtle flavors beneath the peat, fruity, perhaps a more brash attitude compared to port askaig, love them both!
I wouldn’t use as many words to describe this Caol Ila as MoM, but it will be the closest I’ll get to drinking sweet embers. Sure does warm you from the inside. Wonderful.
Typical Islay in style and really good as you’d expect from DL. Lots of that peat / tar / smokey depth.
Sublime. Purchase the entire series of 4 and all 4 don’t disappoint.
This dram encapsulates that classic Caol Ila flavour beautifully!
