Has there ever been a moment when you've been sipping Bulleit Bourbon and wanted it to have even more rye? Well you're in luck, they now have their own Rye whiskey! Bulleit Rye is made with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and is produced in small batches. An absolutely stunning rye that won a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013.
Big heaps of cherries and vanilla, with subtle notes of leather and tobacco.
Rather hot at first, the spices coming to the forefront. This is followed by peaches, more cherries and a little bit of orange zest.
A smoky finish, carried by cinnamon, allspice and a hint of sweeties.
The Bulleit distillery sure know their way around a rye whiskey.
Really lovely, aromatic and spicy. Interesting. Very moreish: this is lovely, a top notch Rye whiskey. One of my absolute faves, and introduced me to Ryes.
I mainly drink islay's and bourbons so tried this for something different and I wasn't disappointed. This is really good stuff and unlike anything else I've tried. Sweet cherries and vanilla on the nose with a bit of spiciness. Very strong taste of spice, powerful hot chilli spice, yet it's also really smooth alcohol-wise considering the strength. Sweet fruit, spearmint and eucalyptus, strong oak and pine wood on the finish almost smokey. Fantastic stuff for the money.
This was my very first rye whiskey and it is so very good. Well worth a try if you’ve never tried a rye before.
I like this. Sweet with a touch of dry bitterness at the end of a long finish. I find it very woody and leathery. Liquorice and some fruitiness that I can't really pin down. Even a saltiness but I wasn't getting that till my third glass. A drop of water brings out a nice little syrupy taste which goes nice with the mild oilyness. The price is unbelievable for the quality. Very good rye.
… and it's a joyous experience. It packs a punch first off, then in the big flavour profile, spice, vanilla, citrus fruits, cherries all combine to make a sipping rye which develops slowly and leaves you with a delicious finish and the urge to pour another glass. This is my first bottle – it wouldn't be my last.
