A fabulous 12-year-old single malt from Royal Brackla! Bottled at 46% ABV, this whisky was finished in oloroso sherry casks, imparting a fantastically fruity, spiced depth of flavour. Royal Brackla was the first distillery to be granted the 'royal' warrant by King William IV back in 1833!
Sherried fruit cake, buttered malt loaf, and stone fruits.
Peaches, dried apricots, dark berries, and cherries mingle with caramelised nuts, chocolate raisins, brown sugar, and baking spices.
Wafts of sweet, tangy oak, sugared fruit, and almonds.
If you are reading this, do not be hesitant. Just order a bottle, you will not be disappointed.
Last week I tried the Olorosum and was pretty impressed, despite an alcoholic rawness about it. This weekend I cracked open this and it blew the Olorosum into the weeds. Super smooth, sherry, caramelised sugar, peach and a buttery, butterscotch finish. I normally drink whisky with a dash of water, but there was no need here. My only criticism is the bottle is so tall it doesn’t fit in the cupboard and has to be left out. I fear it could be finished off before Christmas!
I bought this based on the all positive reviews and that I like sherry finished malts. All I really get is a strong alcohol burn and a short finish. I compared it to two similar strength 12 year olds - Tomatin barolo cask and Glenturret 12 and there's no comparison - those two are far better. This one really isn't worth the praise. I don't like it at all.
Don't tell anyone. Perfectly fine whisky.
A stunning sherried malt this... fabulous depth of flavours spicy yet smooth. It's sweet, yet i'ts oaky and has those delicious cherries always in background; occasionally up front too. This is not cheap for a 12, but it blows anything I've tasted from Macallan and at higher cost... probably shouldn't say all this as it might go up in price
