Bowmore No.1 is produced using single malt Scotch whisky drawn exclusively from first-fill bourbon casks, imparting a creamy sweetness which blends well with the robust Islay smoke that Bowmore is known for.
Nutella on brown bread, sea salt and a hint of lemon zest.
Vanilla notes are up front and sweet (though earthy vanilla pod does appear after a minute). Plenty of coastal peat smoke.
Lingering smokiness.

I found this whisky at the local supermarket paid 29 Euro. I took also a Laphroaig Select another NAS for 35 Euro. The Bowmore is surprisingly better than the Bowmore 10yo. Round, sweet and very simple Whisky. The Laphroaig is a faded copy of the real Laphroaig. Yes there is a lot of peat smoke inside but ...
I found this for less than £20 in the end. I was really disappointed. A nice amount of smoke but really lacks body. A little water did not open it up either.
Face it, this is one of those low-cost supermarket malts for people who don't go out their way to get really nice whiskies but want to have a whisky collection. That's why it's getting such mixed reviews. It's not a great Bowmore, but it is pretty firey and kind of smokey, and that is more than can be said for most budget supermarket whiskies. I got it on offer for £25, which seems fair enough.
Since starting my low carb diet, I have become both reacquainted with and, once again, addicted to whisky. I have enjoyed many a dram but, of all, Bowmore No.1 is the worst. It is appalling. Initially you you get, on both the nose and in the mouth, a smokiness that kids you into thinking it will evolve into a rich and full Lagavulin 16... but alas, no, that's it; there is nothing further other than a faint synthetic sourness as it disappears down your throat. It tastes like sucking your leather belt. Now, may great Islays start this way before developing into a multitude of wonderful flavours. This one, however, just tastes like sucking your belt!
Tastes like a sweet Bowmore Legend. The price tag is quite high if you look at the quality. The nose is quite inoffensive, vaguely salty and on citrus side. mouth is quite sweet, iodine and a bit smoky. final is short, drying and fading very quickly. As anecdotic as Laphroaig select. Consensual Bowmore wanna be? Where is the punch? Where is the peppery side? Where is Bowmore? The Legend, even a bit watery, is still keeping the distillery signature. This one not. In the line of the meh 9 years old and the ridiculous Darkest 15...
