One of a trio of bottlings originally released for the Travel Retail market by Bowmore in 2017. This is a litre bottle of the 15 Year Old expression, matured in first-fill bourbon casks, resulting in generous bundles of vanilla goodness alongside familiar peaty notes.
Fresh vanilla pods and salted caramel. Hints of lemon and orange peel.
A touch of smoked kipper as it opens, leading to seaside fudge and honey'd barley.
Peat smoke, another burst of citrus.
I love this one, if you like bourbon cask whiskey this is one you should try=)
Reminds me of the Indonesian haze. Tastes of smoke and not much else. Not something I'd recommend.
I have this one on my islay shelf. A 15 yo which sounded like a good addition to the Caol Isla, Lagavulin, Ardbeg and even Laphroaig posse, Its an imposter. Tastes like a burnt sh*t sugar butty in comparison. Each to their own.
Very nice Islay malt. Don’t expect the typical smoky peatbomb, but a well balanced masterpiece of fruit, zest, smoke, woodspice (it’s first fill after all) and cinammon/liquorice. On the nose it’s smoky honey combined with a slightly bitter woodsap. aftertaste/finish is long and dominated by the fresh oakwood. Also very dry and a little medicinal.
On the nose is the expected peat, but with some mint and a touch of leather. The palate is bright with peat, cloves and bitter-herbal notes. The finish is medium length with that leather again, mineral peat notes, ash and some lemon zest. Nice change of pace for Bowmore to offer something less sweet, without as much sherry cask influence. From the palate, this must be mostly ex-burbon casks. A great quality value for the price, especially for a liter bottle. Highly recommended! <3
