The heart of the Bowmore range, the 12 year old exhibits some beautiful coastal notes with a gentle peat, it is the balance that the floral element presents that makes this a great entry bottling for Bowmore.
Coastal smoke and ash soon make way for bergamot, orange zest, lemon slices and some hay before becoming rather floral, heather smoke now competing with the ash.
Lovely and rounded, honeyed even, initially. Vanilla, perfumed smoke and coastal elements develop. Dark Peat. Blossom, oily sweetness.
Smoky and long. Sea spray, dry grass, a touch of ash and citrus.
Classic stuff and the heart of the Bowmore range. Smoky, fruity, coastal, delicious.

Smokiness was charcoal and not the pleasant wood smokiness of older Bowmore or Ardbeg and certainly miles away from a Lagavulin. The oily mouthfeel on the palate is also interesting but not particularly pleasant. Aromas and flavors of orange and honey are present. Overall this is a disappointing bottle from an otherwise quality producer.
Totally support A Scotsman's view below: “This is a great whisky for the common man. OK so it's not going to stand up to finer whiskies of greater strength and smaller batch, but it is better than most in its price range, especially if you pick it up discounted. This 12 year old is streets ahead of your Glenlivits, Highland Parks and Glenmorangies ect. A lot of poor reviews seem to be unfair in my humble, working class Scottish opinion. It is what it is, a great honest, affordable dram for the workers of the world.”
This Islay gem has a tempered peaty note that balances well with the malty, toffee and woody nuances that satisfy through and through. At this price point, the age and complexity make it a great experience. Slange var.
I have to say this is one of the worst I've had from Islay. Bought in on offer at £25 and it just sits on the shelf. It's not a terrible whisky but I wouldn't pay full price for it when for a few quid more you can get a Caol Ila or Ardbeg. It has a strange off taste I can't quite describe and is a bit watery.
