A 16 year old Bladnoch, distilled in 1992, matured initially in bourbon barrels before a finish in Amarone Italian red wine casks. Bottled in 2008 at the Bruichladdich distillery, with Islay spring water. A release of 2,500 bottles.
These bottles were part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Wine-like on the nose. Hints of Port, in fact, with honey, cantaloupe melon and black pepper. A hint of ground ginger and allspice and just a touch of cow parsley.
Very sweet and also rather soft, as the whole thing feels much like bread and butter pudding, coating in warm ginger syrup. Plenty of rich, juicy sultanas too.
Sweet and creamy finish, it coats the mouth and you can really see this being a perfect dessert whisky. A little redcurrant trails off.
