A Benrinnes single malt Scotch whisky here, presented by Signatory Vintage. Distilled on 23 September 2010, this Speyside whisky was aged for 12 years, including a finish in a first-fill oloroso sherry butt (#112) before it was bottled on 16 August 2023. A total of 683 bottles were filled at 57.6% ABV.
Rich, powerful. Notes of black liquorice, burnt wood and tiger balm bring the first nose a fiery temperament. Allowed to breathe, heady florals (iris, lily), malted barley and wood polish notes add an empyreumatic dimension to the aroma palette.
Svelte, lively. The invigorating attack reveals astonishingly pure notes of white fruits (pear, Mirabelle plum). On the mid-palate, refined skin tannins (botrytized grape) coat the palate. Just before the finish, we return to malted territory.
Long, velvety. The cocoa-esque finish offers a diverse array of delicious pastries, from spice bread to candied fruit cake and mocha coffee. The pleasantly malty after-taste is herbal (lime blossom, bay leaf) and hot (Cayenne pepper). The end of the finish is seeped in tangy notes (grapefruit, lemon).
