From Benriach's 2020 relaunch of its cracking core range comes The Twelve, a 12-year-old Speyside single malt matured in a trio of casks - namely sherry casks, bourbon casks and Port casks! This maturation has imparted dried fruit notes galore, alongside wafts of good coffee and subtle spices. Very impressive indeed.
Maple syrup on blueberry pancakes, dark chocolate, quince and orange.
Honeyed cereals, cooked apple, chocolate peanuts and soft, almost jammy sultanas.
Mocha, honey, dried fruit and mixed peels.

I usually almost exclusively drink peated Islay whisky but I'm trying to expand my horizon and go with more sherry sweetness. Already did aberlour and thought it was fabulous. Had big expectations about BenRiach 12 and here is my thoughts. On the nose I'm picking orange, maple and little bit of chocolate. Nose is quite fruity and something I did expect. The Palate is surprisingly peppery and oaky. I'm not sensing lot of cherrynes or sweetness more like oak, peppers and nuts. The finish is pretty short on my mind and it's the same as peppery with some orange peels. To be honest I'm little disappointed. I know I'm biased because of my love for peat but this lacks character in my mind. Gonna try their peated ones next.
Disappointing. Too sweet, no character, not sure if it's worth the higher price tag. Benriach used to be one of my favorite Scotch distilleries. Not sure if this disappointing expression is a sign of new ownership.
This is a nice whisky. Sweet and fruity. The cask maturation works with for me the bourbon coming to the fore. I’d add a touch of banana to the finish which is pleasant and lingering. Good value for money.
One of the best 12 year olds I’ve tried, all three casks come into to play here, really really tasty. In my opinion Benriach are producing some excellent whiskies at the moment . Try it !
An allaround whisky with no special character. The sweetnes is sugary rather than spicy or fruity. Not bad, but there are some blends out there that are cheaper and better than this one.
