The entry level Benriach bottling with no age statement, named for the distillery's location in Elgin in Moray at the heart of Speyside. A fresh, youthful whisky with a distinct countryside note.
Fresh. Cut hay, acacia honey. Damp earth, spicy.
Rounded smoothness. Marmalade. Gentle smoke, earthy peat somewhere in the substrata.
Peppery oak develops.
Deep and lingering flavours that bring out an orangey back taste. Just the merest hint of smoke that adds to the taste rather than over powering it. Long finish with a sharp zing to the roof of the mouth.
This is not rated that highly by many so called experts, so my expectation was low, It turns out to be one of my favorite summer malts. I just add a teaspoon of cold pure water, fantastic and great value.
Good, refreshing one. Easy to approach, nice for taking it easy in the evenings.
It is not a very complex malt but still it is a great, refreshing youngster, showin' how good the BenRiach copes with ex-bourbon casks! Very rounded as for a NAS whisky. Great quality-price relation:)
