All the way back in 1792, Kentucky officially became a state. Many moons later, 1792 Small Batch bourbon was named after that very same year. As it happens, it's a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Coincidence? We think not. This expression features mashbill with a generous helping of rye, resulting in a flavour profile packed with herbal spice alongside the classic caramelised sugar, buttered corn and toasted oak notes you find in top-notch bourbons. Great for sipping over a couple ice cubes on a sunny evening.
Buttery warmth up front, followed by black pepper and Sesame Snaps. Soft smoky hints of charred oak and cinnamon.
Runny caramel, clove, cardamom, corn grilled on a BBQ, peanut brittle and spicy rye.
A little hint of cinnamon and citrus on the finish.

As with any bourbons of this proof, a teaspoon of water really opens it up and lessens the burn. I really am enjoying this whiskey. Full bodied but well rounded, 1792 has some spicy notes after an initial sugar hit. I would call this a "chewy" bourbon! Something that really fills the mouth in a way some lighter bourbons or single malts don't. Good value too.
Note: I’m by no means a connoisseur, and for context come from a background of Makers, Bulleit, Woodford, JB double oak. I noticed more of a burn than I’m used to, which faded nicely with a drop of water and brought some sweetness out. Enjoyable both ways. Also mixed nicely for an Old Fashioned. I paid £27. I would buy this again. The bottle is nice too.
A real treat, it’s like drinking a banana cream pie. Highly recommend.
I'm trying 1792 for the first time. I like it better with a splash of cold water. The water mellows out the spice and brings out the sweetness. It is a bit on the oaky and leathery side as far as taste. I don't get the carmel and vanilla others talk about. Overall not bad for $30 but I've had better in the price range.
This is how Bourbon should taste. It's a bit in your face, not particularly smooth, but has so much instant flavour, especially coming from the oak wood it's casked with. It's a throwback bourbon, and I believe that's a good thing. In your face, honest, not particularly complex but that's why one drinks bourbon. It's a bourbon that doesn't apologize for what it is. Well done.
