Balvenie 14 Year Old - The Week of Peat

One of three releases in The Balvenie Stories range, this is a peaty 14 year old single malt Scotch whisky, inspired by distillery manager Ian Millar installing a peat burner at Balvenie. For one week each year, the distillery created peated whisky using Speyside peat, resulting in expressions that introduce fragrant smoke notes to the classic Balvenie flavour profile.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose

Gentle sweet peat smoke, lighter floral notes and delicate butterscotch honey.

Palate

Velvety and round to taste with the peat smoke balancing citrus flavours, oaky vanilla and blossom honey.

Finish

Gentle smoke with a lingering and creamy vanilla sweetness.

Something special

I love this. The peat gives an aromatic smokey twang, just enough edge to excite without overpowering. The balance is incredible with a delicious sweetness, especially the vanilla. Utterly delicious.

Just buy it.

If you're wanting a gentle entry to peat, this is exactly what you need. If you want something that is actually peaty but doesn't smack you over the head with a burning log, this is your man. You do dont normally do peat but love the honey/floral types and want something a little different... Well, there arent many circumstances where this whisky won't impress you, if I'm honest. Oh and for those of you who just like the label, I know what you mean. You will look so cool having this on your shelf.

Love it !!

I love this, smoky whiskies are nice every now and again, this is a cracker. They bottled it at cask strength too, wonderful. I would definitely have this again.

Brilliant. Flawless. Superb.

I keep a bottle of 12 year old on standby for those long days that life throws at you but this is something else. To describe the nose/taste I would say it is like those summer days where you can smell the smoke of a thousand BBQs and whilst you sit in a heavily floral smelling garden. It is simply fantastic. You have the sour of the smoke balanced perfectly against the Balvenie sweetness at the end. If you have a "bad day" go to whisky like I do then this will become your "good day" whisky very very quickly. Outstanding. Buy one before they are all gone.
