Balvenie 14 Year Old Peated Triple Cask is a whisky with a bit of a backstory! In the 1950s, Balvenie distilled a batch of heavily peated malt, unlike other Speyside distilleries at the time. In the early 2000s the distillery started experimenting to recreate that same peated malt and since then, they have dedicated one week each year, aptly-named Peat Week, to using only peated barley in its production.
This peated expression was originally released for the Travel Retail market. It was aged for 14 years in three cask types – first-fill bourbon, refill bourbon and sherry cask. The resulting whisky is sweet, smoky and full of spices.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed info and/or photos just get in touch!
Sweet, malty aromas with a gentle earthy smokiness in the background. Vanilla fudge and cinnamon.
Golden syrup contrasted with smoke. Sharper citrus notes alongside creamy vanilla and honey, fade into warming cinnamon and ginger spices.
A lingering finish of delicate smoke and spicy honeyed sweetness.

Beautifully balanced peat and sherry. Shame it is so hard to get hold of!
Peaty on the nose, but smooth and honey on the palate. Bit of spices at the end. Excellent dram.
A hint of peat on the nose but then very smooth on the palate with spices on the finish.
Tried this whisky and was amazed at how its smoky but not over powering. You still get sweet flavours coming through. Good dram!
My first Balvenie and for me it could do with more taste of peat. It’s ok and I will try the Peat Week on a later occasion
