Wine Cask

A lovely Ballechin single malt here, the heavily peated whisky made at Edradour Distillery. This particular example boasts an unusual finish in orange wine casks from Huelva, Andalucia, where the rich wine was macerated with orange peel and aged in a solera system not unlike sherry. This Highland whisky was matured for 15 years in total and then bottled at a cask strength of 54.1% ABV on 4 September 2024 with its natural colour. The total outturn is 2,430 bottles.
Fresh and zesty with orange peels, rich marmalade and delicate citrus blossom before honeyed stone fruits develop, with peat smoke and oak char nestling in the depths.
Candied mango and dried orange wheels join spiced honey and bold, peated barley. The earthy smoke is balanced by citrus sweetness, with notes of vanilla cream joining in time.
Baking spices, gentle smoke, candied citrus, a touch of peppercorn and nutmeg warmth.
