Brilliant bourbon from Balcones, down in Waco, Texas! Balcones is known for making spirits with big, bold, powerful flavour profiles, and this pot still bourbon certainly fits the bill. Built upon a mash bill of blue corn, wheat, rye, and malted barley, this bourbon offers up rich, oily, expressive notes of honey, oak, new leather, and more. Spectacular stuff as ever from Balcones.
Charred oak and roasted corn, with drizzles of honey and caramel.
Oily and unctuous, with Seville orange marmalade and candied nuts, plus earthy oak once again at the core.
Lasting peppery spice, dried fruit, and a hint of smoke.
A rare find at the price. Roasted blue corn (have you tried their Baby Blue Corn Whiskey?), wheat, rye and barley. Corn syrup, treacle, charred wood, liquorice, nutmeg on the nose. Silky, syrupy feel on the palate, hints of pepper and almond nuttiness, notes of those caramelised biscuits you get with coffee, stewed apples, orange, chocolate. A long, juicy, slightly spicy finish. Good stuff. I hope the sold out status is merely temporary.....
I was buying bourbon from Royal MIle Whiskies in Edinburgh some years ago when I spied a Texas bourbon (not this one), and said to the young woman who was helping, "Oh, I have never seen a bourbon from Texas before!" She replied that it wasn't much good, and she had license to say so, being herself a Texan. This, however , is delicious and fully recommended.
Marvellous stuff. Proper drink after a meal.Thought the tasting notes described it to a tea .
Excellent Bourbon. Stand up very well against the competition. A very full taste with hints of sweetness. Overall a great bourbon. Excellent value for money.
Amazing!!
